Lefty Bloggers: Obama 'Just Not That Into Us'

Netroots Nation convention bemoans dashed progressive hopes

(Newser) – One emotion running high at this year’s annual meeting of liberal bloggers: disappointment in the president. One popular panel at the Netroots Nation Convention was even titled, “What to Do When the President’s Just Not That Into You," and featured an editor at Daily Kos noting, “It’s like the president’s not our boyfriend anymore.” A gay-rights blogger added, “I honest to God thought I was voting for these guys and that it was going to be the first time in my lifetime that I'm finally in a position of power."

The editor reminded panelists of successes, such as the defeat of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. “But it sounded like a defense of the boyfriend who brought you flowers even though he cheated on you,” writes Ina Jaffe at NPR. Still, now is the time to hold the president accountable, said another blogger. “This is the time when he needs your vote. So don't give yourself away cheaply. Ask for what you need and what the country needs and this is the time to do it."

Ok, im going to play a little blame the victim here. You want everything your way. Unfortunately your idea of reality isn't always on; pragmatism moves in. So unbeknownst to you, our President is the closest thing you have ever had to what you wanted and it still isn't good enough. Because he didn't usher in a socialist utopia, you sit out there in cyber space pissed off. Well libbies, let me tell ya, the world don't work the way you want it to and you will not get your way on every issue every time. Praise what many have to say is the best President in years and other say the worse. No buyers remorse, no taking your ball and going home. Live with your choices and quit crying to the broader media and lobby our President.

People should remember that the presidency is only one third of the government and alone he can't do anything. I've followed politics along time and I have never seen the outright hostility displayed to President Obama from day one with any president before him in my lifetime. For anything to be accomplished in Washington there has to be some co-operation between the president, house and senate and that has not been the case since he was elected. For those of you who are thinking about not voting in 2012 remember 2010 when the democrats decided to sit it out because President Obama had not been able to deliver on all his promises. That's a mighty high price to pay because you didn't get everything your way. The republicans decided from the day this man was elected not to co-operate, not to do anything to help him or the country because their only goal has been to see him gone and get rid of all social support systems. They don't give a rat's a*s about the middle class or the poor. I have been disappointed as well but at least I can understand why. I do believe that if elected to a second term it's going to be quite different from the first term. There is a saying in politics that a one term president is about as useless as tits on a bull and that's because there is always that second term to worry about. I expect that the republicans won't know what hit em if he is elected to a second term. We need to do our part to make sure that he is elected and that we get every republican we can out of office and not put any new ones in. A play is only as good as the actors and you got to have a strong supporting cast.

If you're a Democrat and you're not satisfied with Obama, and you're thinking about not voting, or worse yet, voting for Republicans in 2012, read the latest news about Wisconsin. If you like the radical policies of Scott Walker and you want them extended to the entire country, then by all means, vote Republican. Otherwise, I suggest you get your ass to the polls in 2012 and vote for Obama and the Dems.
