(Newser) – The search is on for a missing 4-month-old girl in Michigan whose father is suspected of kidnapping her, reports ABC News. Katherine Shelbie-Elizabeth Phillips has been missing since Wednesday when her father—21-year-old National Guardsman Sean Phillips—allegedly ran off with her following an argument with the infant's mother, 19-year-old Ariel Courtland. Phillips has since been arrested, but police found no sign of "Baby Kate."

Courtland doesn't think Phillips harmed the child, but she fears he may not reveal the baby's location. "I think, if anything, he just left her somewhere," she says. Police searched Phillips' house, and the Coast Guard has been called in to survey a nearby lake. "She is small," says the county prosecutor. "But it's not like it's January or 20 below zero. Hopefully, we can find her safely if she's been left outside or in the wild."

I can’t help but wonder what the father being in the National Guard has to do with anything; unless he hid the baby in the armory. This sounds like a cheap shot at all the good folks whom are in the National Guard. In the meantime I do hope he left his child with family and this lowlife gets what he deserves.

What kind of father leaves the little girl abandoned to die? Here's hoping he left her in the care of someone.
