Really, is there anything more American than 'The Situation'?

(Newser) – While celebrating our nation's birthday, pause and raise your beer can and toast these famous Americans, born on the fourth of July. Highlights from the Daily Beast's list:

  • Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino: Which news do you find most surprising? That "The Situation" turns 30 today, or that his reality TV earnings were second only to Kim Kardashian's last year.
  • Calvin Coolidge: Our country's 30th president is the only commander in chief to have had this patriotic birthday.

  • Gloria Stuart: A great piece of trivia for filmgoers obsessed with Titanic. The actress who played the 101-year-old version of Rose in the movie was born July 4, and died last year at age 100.
  • Ann Landers/Dear Abby: Twin sisters Esther Pauline Friedman and Pauline Esther Friedman (yes, you read those names correctly) were born in 1918 and went on to become Ann Landers and Dear Abby, respectively.
  • Bill Withers: The musician behind American classics like "Lean on Me," "Ain’t No Sunshine," and "Just the Two of Us" was born in 1938.
  • Malia Obama: The first daughter turns the big 1-3 today.

The Situation was born on the Fourth of July?  Who cares?  What is interesting it that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died the same day on the Fourth of July.  Jefferson in the morning so that Adams got to say, hah--beat him.  You know they hated each other.  Well, Adams hated him.  I don't think that Jefferson had enough emotion to hate.   He was like Asperger City.  I've always liked him even though he did have children with a slave.  But the slave was his sister-in-law and he promised his dying wife that he'd never remarry.  Does that make it worse?  Maybe--he freed all their children but even on his death he didn't free her.  Wonder why?  Cause a freed slave had to leave the state and he wanted her to stay at Monticello.  See--reason for everything.  And it's hard to find reason when we are talking about slaves.  And he was so in debt that she got tossed out anyway.  Great writer but piss poor at living.

That Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is a celebrity speaks loudly about the abysmal state of American society and the lack of taste among Americans.
