Philbins looking to part with home listed at $3.8 M

(AP) – It appears retiring from his TV show may have inspired Regis Philbin to downsize. The Reeg and his wife, Joy, are trying to sell one of the two homes they own in Greenwich, Conn. The house on Meeting House Road has nearly 6,000 square feet, four bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It sits on 6 acres near Mianus River State Park and also includes a pool, tennis court, and gazebo. It is listed for $3.8 million with Sotheby's International Realty, but was listed for $5.9 million back in 2008.

A broker tells the Greenwich Time that it didn't sell the last time around because of the downturn in the housing market, and perhaps the condition of other houses on the road. The Philbins own another home less than two miles away, and an apartment in Manhattan. Click here for the real estate listing.

(NEWSER) - A Connecticut man has pleaded not guilty after being charged in his wife's murder of nearly three decades ago. The remains of Elizabeth Heath were discovered two years ago in a well below a barn that once belonged to her husband. John Heath, 68, who used an oxygen tank in court, reported his wife missing in 1984, days after filing for divorce. He told friends and family she had left him and their daughter with no explanation while he was asleep, the Danbury News Times reports. More»

Connecticut Kills Death Penalty

Law won't affect murderers already on death row

(NEWSER) - Life without the possibility of parole has replaced lethal injection as the harshest punishment Connecticut's courts can hand down. Gov. Dan Malloy signed a bill to repeal capital punishment, making the state the 17th to do so, and the fifth in the last five years, ABC reports. The new law will not affect the 11 killers already on death row in the state, including two men sentenced to death for murdering the wife and daughters of Dr. William Petit in a home invasion. Petit successfully lobbied lawmakers to delay repeal until both men had been sentenced. More»

Mitt Romney has won Delaware, billed as Gingrich's last-gasp chance, as part of a five-state sweep, according to the Wall Street Journal . In addition to Delaware, Romney won Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. Connecticut to Kill the Death Penalty

Senate OKs bill repealing capital punishment

(NEWSER) - The death penalty is a dead man walking in Connecticut. The state is almost certain to become the 17th one to do away with capital punishment, following a 20-16 vote in the state Senate. That—the 10 hours of debate and the 2:05am vote—was the hard part, explains the Hartford Courant , since the state House and governor have vowed to pass and sign the bill, respectively. The repeal of capital punishment will mean that life in prison without parole will become the state's new highest form of punishment going forward, meaning the 11 men on death row (including these guys ) would still be executed.
