(Newser) – The Lockerbie bomber has been spotted at a rally for Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi two years after he was freed from a Scottish prison because he was supposedly on the brink of death. Abdelbaset al-Megrahi can be seen seated in a wheelchair on a broadcast of the rally aired by the state-run TV station. Megrahi was convicted of killing 270 people over Lockerbie with a bomb on a flight traveling from London to New York.

His release on compassionate grounds due to his fatal prostate cancer sparked a storm of controversy in the UK among critics who said his freedom was a bid to develop closer ties with Gadhafi for oil. Scottish officials determined he had about three months to live. The presenter in yesterday's broadcast said "half the world conspired" against Megrahi, reports the BBC.
