(Newser) – Good news, if you're the US economy: Mitch McConnell says a debt ceiling deal is "very close," reports Politico. Speaking on CNN's State of the Nation this morning, the Senate minority leader said lawmakers yesterday made "dramatic progress" on a two-step, $3 trillion agreement that would see President Obama through the 2012 election, include a balanced budget amendment, and set up a panel to ferret out further cuts. "We had a very good day yesterday," McConnell said, continuing his chirpy tone from yesterday. "I think we're very close to being in a position where I can recommend (approval) to my members."

When looking at that picture it's hard to believe that the Dems. weren't scared into giving up Medicare.

Why is it so easy to believe that Obama gave away the farm to McConnell who has ALWAYS said quite publicly that his primary goal was to make Obama a one term President? Why would a brother give away the farm to a fat old white guy who is outranked by the crying tangerine guy? How can the man I thought I was voting for be this much of a boot licker? How can he betray the needs of his base in this way? How can he lose his self respect so publically? Clearly there are no leaders in Congress and none in the White House. Where are we to go to find leadership that represents the people instead of the multinational corporate oligarchs whom we did not choose and who have only the interests of themselves and their class at heart.
