Imus, Sharpton Square Off
Nationally syndicated radio personality Don Imus speaks at the Radio and Television Correspondents Association dinner in Washington in this file photo of March 21, 1996. Imus apologized Friday, April 6, 2007, for making racially charged comments about the Rutgers University women   (Associated Press)

Two of the loudest personalities on the FM dial will publicly brawl today when right-leaning mock jock Don Imus visits Al Sharpton’s syndicated show, days after characterizing the black-leaning Rutgers basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.” The always-vociferous Sharpton wants Imus fired, and Imus—no shrinking violet himself—will likely fight back.

Imus did offer the obligatory apology for the remarks, which he called “stupid.” But Sharpton, along with Jesse Jackson and the New Jersey NAACP, insists it’s not enough and wants the pundit’s ouster. “We cannot keep going through offending us and then apologizing and then acting like it never happened,” Sharpton said. Expect fireworks at 1 PM. (More Don Imus stories.)
