Brace Yourself for Even Worse 2nd Recession

Could devastate a still-ailing economy, writes Catherine Rampell

(Newser) – Economists say we could be headed for a second recession—and if they’re right, it’s poised to be even more devastating than the first, writes Catherine Rampell in the New York Times. That’s because the starting point for the second dip would be our current weak economy, and this time, policymakers have little room to fix things. Consumers don't have much fat to cut, either—they did that already—meaning families would have to "cut from the bone."

Other signs round two would be a doozy: Consumer spending hasn’t grown; industrial production is down 8% compared to December 2007; and while the civilian working-age population has grown about 3% since 2007, there are 5% fewer jobs for it. Interest rates can’t go lower than their current zero, and Washington lacks the financial and political means for another stimulus. Finally, "and perhaps most worrisome," is the fact that the economy is smaller now than it was at the beginning of the recession. The only good news: Corporate profits have hit record highs, and the cash in corporations' coffers could "act as a buffer to layoffs if demand drops."

A 2nd recession will occur because we never fixed the problems that caused the 1st recession; We have banks that are too big to fail; they need to be divested; The GLBA needs to be rolled back to the Glass Steagall Act. Bernanke and the Feds have diluted our money supply by 20% plus, Bernanke should be fired. The Fed should be audited. All Federal subsidies of all types should be eliminated. Cut all Federal budgets 15% across the board. Raise taxes by 4% on people making 500k a year. All people on Welfare need to pass drug test. Reduce the number of people on Welfare, get a Welfare to work program going. Place a 10% tariff on food exports. Eliminate the Davis Bacon Act; we can no longer afford prevailing wages. Stop creating laws that hamper businesses. Take the planes away from Congressmen, let them fly coach. Give Congress the same healthcare plan as The People. Give Congress the same Social Security Plan as The People.

. I just paiid $21.87 for an i P a d 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, BidsFirst.com

Sounds like the same America we had when Carter was President.  They then also thought we had passed our prime and our empire was done. What we need is leadership. Our current partisanship only serves to prolong the agony and keep empowered those who play the partisan game.  Term limits and federally funded elections would solve the greatest part of it all.
