Dirty Dancing is getting remade, and not everyone is happy about it. "Deal with it, it's happening, there's nothing you can do about it," declares Kyle Buchanan in New York. Kenny Ortega, who choreographed the original film, will direct the reboot, Lionsgate announced. Ortega went on from Dirty Dancing to direct the three High School Musical films as well as Michael Jackson's This Is It. "Fans of Dirty Dancing are a fervent bunch who remain steadfastly loyal," notes Jen Chaney in the Washington Post. "And having read this news, I am guessing that many of their heads may have just exploded."

Lest you've forgotten, a Dirty Dancing sequel was already made (Havana Nights) and it was terrible. Not to mention, who could possibly replace Patrick Swayze, Chaney wonders. In the Telegraph, Sarah Crompton concurs: "The chemistry between Jennifer Gray and Patrick Swayze, as Baby and Johnny, was one of those lucky chances," she writes. "Ortega will do well to reproduce even a tiny bit of it in a remake that every fan around the world will be waiting to criticize." (More Dirty Dancing stories.)
