America's credit downgrade is being called the "Obama downgrade," and Larry Wilmore—the Daily Show's "senior black correspondent"—isn't happy about it. "America finally gets its first black president, and our credit goes bad. F***!" The GOP must love this, because "Republicans have been looking for the perfect black stereotype to bring down Obama's presidency for a while," Wilmore noted last night. "They keep pointing out how much he likes basketball; they called his 50th birthday party a 'hip-hop BBQ.'"
But it's too late to fight the stereotypes, Wilmore insists. There's only one solution: "It's time to go blacker." After all, "if he's gonna be labeled black, then he should own it! And when I say 'own it,' I mean 'rent it,'" Wilmore explained, while giving Obama some helpful advice such as how to wear his pants. He also had some tips for how to get out of this credit hole—because, he declared, "If there's one thing black people relate to, it's credit problems!" Less »
