Eagles Nearly Overcome Pats

Posted Nov 26, 07 4:45 AM CST in Sports

(Newser) – The force of nature that is this season's New England Patriots finally met a resistance too strong to brush off, in the form of the Philadelphia Eagles. Though the Patriots won the game 31-28, they found themselves in fairly unfamiliar territory, trailing by four points in the fourth quarter, and unable to depend on Randy Moss as a receiver, reports ESPN.

Philadelphia's devious defense held Moss to only five catches, and pushed Tom Brady to spread his passes to other New England receivers like Wes Welker (149 yards) and Jabar Gaffney (87 yards). Eagles backup quarterback A. J. Feeley completed 27 of 42 passes for 345 yards, but his three interceptions proved costly: Asante Samuel returned one of them for a touchdown and caught another in his own end zone to shut down a late Eagle drive.
