Calif. Dream Act Takes Another Step

College aid for illegals passes panel, heads to legislature

(Newser) – A California state Senate panel has approved a measure that would allow illegal immigrant college students to receive public aid. The panel’s approval of the bill, the second part of a pair of bills known as the California Dream Act, means the measure will head to the full Senate and Assembly, where its author expects it to pass. Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed versions of the bill, but Gov. Jerry Brown has backed the idea and signed the first part of the Act, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The California DREAM Act doesn't pay for students' tuition. It simply gives illegal students access to PRIVATELY funded financial aid. They aren't the decision-makers in their families who chose to come to the US illegaly. Many of these students have spent the majority of their lives in the United States and deserve access to education, regardless of their legal status. Personally, I would like to see the US DREAM Act passed because it would allow illegal minors who are making something of themselves to pursue legal residency in the US.

These ILLEGALS want college do they?????   GO back to Mexico and enroll there!!!  LET  American citizens attend  American  colleges.   MY children were told  illegals had PREFERENCE over American born students. W. T. F. ??????????    The illegal student that knocked my son off the list,  could NOT read or write English!!!!DAMN!   MY son is paying his way, Juan is getting a free ride  INCLUDING books!!  FCK THAT!!!   He is illegal and  gets a free ride,   again Fcku that!!!!

Hi Everyone, Don’t like the dream act? Me neither. So I’ve decided to do something about it. My name’s Alex and I'm in the initial stages of readying a petition that would get a measure on the ballot where voters can take a stand against the DREAM ACT. It seeks to prohibit public funds (i.e. tax payer money, grants, etc…) from going to non-legal, undocumented citizens of California. I believe it is important because it effectively decreases potential opportunities for native, legal, Californians. There are many Californians who need/will need financial assistance in the future, but may not be able to get it thanks to legislation like the Dream Act. I have countless stories of people in California who dream about college but cannot afford it. If the Dream Act is passed, these American citizens will have an even harder time at achieving their dreams. They need help. They need a voice.
