(Newser) – Puerto Rico lawmaker Roberto Arango hasn't confirmed or denied whether lewd photos of a man resembling him on popular gay cruising app Grindr are, in fact, of him—but he has resigned from the territory's Senate all the same. The San Juan Republican sent a letter of resignation to the state Senate yesterday, after meeting with leaders, reports the AP. The contents of the letter have not been disclosed.

Arango had previously given a vague non-denial, explaining: "You know I've been losing weight. As I shed that weight, I've been taking pictures. I don't remember taking this particular picture but I'm not gonna say I didn't take it. I'd tell you if I remembered taking the picture but I don't." The AP notes that Arango had, according to the founder of a gay rights group, voted in favor of Resolution 99, a proposal that would block any attempt to permit same-sex marriages in Puerto Rico. He also opposed adoption rights for gays. Click for more details on the photos.
