Sarah Palin's hot-blooded barrages were loved by crowds in Iowa on Saturday, but despite the usual right-wing boilerplate solutions, the former Alaska governor's attacks are coming dressed in uniquely left-wing language, notes David Sessions on the Daily Beast. "Crony capitalism," "corporate welfare," and "socialism for the very rich" were three of Palin's major targets, as she called for a "revolution" from "ordinary people."
But the culprit behind all that growing inequality and domineering plutocracy? Barack Obama, of course. And the solution? More austerity and deregulation. "How Palin arrives at her root causes can be mind-bending," writes Sessions. "Cronyism," for example, doesn't cling desperately to dictionary definitions, but from Palin refers to the emergency federal bailouts agreed to by both parties, or to stimulus packages that saved millions of jobs. "If Sarah Palin is the only one talking about socialism for the rich," says Session, "the left is further in the desert than it has yet imagined."
