Biden: They Won't Let Me Drive Vice president waxes poetic about his love of convertibles to 'Car and Driver' By Kevin Spak, Newser Staff Posted Sep 6, 2011 12:46 PM CDT 26 comments Comments Joe Biden jokes about the perils of throwing out a ceremonial first pitch as he autographs a baseball for a worker at Bonneville & Son's car dealership in Manchester, NH, May 25, 2011. (AP Photo/Elise Amendola) (Newser) – Joe Biden is a car guy. His dad ran multiple dealerships, and the VP has owned some drool–worthy classics in his day. “I still have my 1967 Goodwood-green Corvette, 327, 350-horse, with a rear-axle ratio that really gets up and goes,” he boasts in a new interview with Car and Driver. There’s just one problem: “The Secret Service won’t let me drive it. I’m not allowed to drive anything. It’s the one thing I hate about this job. I’m serious.” The outspoken vice president also uses the interview to tout the auto bailout, which he says “absolutely” saved a million jobs. Asked about the Onion depiction of him washing a Pontiac Trans Am while shirtless, he replied, “You think I’d drive a Trans Am? I have been in my bathing suit in my driveway and not only washed my Goodwood-green 1967 Corvette but also simonized it. At least the Onion should have had me washing a Trans Am convertible. I love convertibles.” Click to read the entire interview.
