As part of the world-wide remembrance of the horrors of 9/11 yesterday, a group of Muslim demonstrators burned the American flag near the US embassy in London. The flag was torched as London observed a minute of silence at the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center in 2001. Protesters, including members of Muslims Against Crusades, shouted “USA terrorists,” and held signs that read: “Islam Will Dominate the World," reports the Telegraph. “You will always face suffering, you will always face humiliation, unless you withdraw your troops from Muslim lands,” said one protester in a speech.
Police had to clear the way for the demonstrators. Some 60 members of the far-right English Defense League hurled bottles at the Muslim protesters. A smaller counter-demonstration to the MAC protest was held nearby by Muslims Against Extremism. “I’m a Muslim. What they’re doing is bringing shame on all Muslims. This is not part of the teachings of Islam,” a protester in the group told ABC News. Muslim demonstrators elsewhere, including Pakistan, also burned the US flag to mark the anniversary of 9/11.
