(Newser) – Who's the unhappiest white collar worker in the land? Apparently it's a woman, 42, unmarried, earning less than $100,000, and in a professional position like doctor or lawyer—or so says a new survey, Jezebel reports. The happiest? Male, 39, married, earning $150,000-$200,000, in senior management, with one young kid and a part-time mom at home. Now the question is why.

The survey suggests a few reasons. Could be it's because men take breaks from work more easily for personal reasons, like eating, working out, and sex. This implies that women struggle to balance life with work, and are likely to endure headaches, stress, and other physical problems. Or maybe our sample single woman wishes she had a family and, unburdened by family demands, puts in too many work hours. "Women seem less likely than men to recognize that they need time to themselves," writes Anna North on Jezebel, "and they're suffering for it."

Could be because a dude in a job like that can just sit on his ass or go golfing and take credit for whatever gets done, and pin any blame on someone else.

So a younger man making twice what the older woman is making is also happier. Gee, I wouldn't have guessed that. Amazing. Money does buy happiness.

Making less than $100,000 and having a stressful job makes you unhappy whether your single or married if your not happy it's just what's inside of you.
