HPV Vaccine-Maker Merck, Perry Cozier Than Claimed

Made major donations to Republican Governors Assocation

(Newser) – Rick Perry told Michele Bachmann in Monday night's GOP debate that he received only a $5,000 donation from HPV vaccine maker Merck, but his financial ties to the drug maker are closer than that figure suggests, the Washington Post finds. Perry's campaigns have received almost $30,000 from Merck since 2000 and the drug maker has given $380,000 to the Republican Governors Association since 2006—which Perry has chaired twice and which has contributed around $4 million to his campaigns.

Almost a third of the $217 million collected at the RGA over the last five years came from 139 donors to Perry's gubernatorial campaigns, according to the nonpartisan Texans for Public Justice group, a frequent foe of the governor. "With Perry, there’s his Christian conservative base and crony capitalism, and when push came to shove, crony capitalism won the day,” the group's research director says of the vaccine issue. “This puts him in trouble with a key part of his coalition."

There is more to this story!  Rick Perry's former chief of staff  Mike Toomey and his current chief of staff's Mother-N-Law are both lobbyist for Merck. Moreover, Merck was funneling money thru Women in Goverment which Perry is also connected to!!!  The big question, is how did a POOR Texas farm boy that has been in public office since he was 26 become a multi millonaire with no other business's???? Perry has been bad for Texas and continues to be.  The actions he has taken inTexas have nothing to do with supporting the vast majority of Texans but for lining his pockets.... I could list many things where we have suffered under Rick Perry starting with Education, The Trans Texas Cooridor etc.... The only reason he has remained in office is 1) he was under the Bush political machine, but if you notice Karl Rove is adamantly opposed to Rick Perry.  2)  he has not had a viable opponent, neither republican or democrat!

"there’s his Christian conservative base and crony capitalism"   ----   And his christian base is too stupid to see that he is just paying lip service to them to get the ignorant by choice vote.

and now, thanks to the illustrious SCOTUS, any company can pour any amount into any campaign, establishing any degree of "closeness" and YOU can NEVER discover that. Rick could become MUCH "closer" to his cronies ... out of your sight ... away from scrutiny.
