'Too many redheads in relation to demand': bank director

(Newser) – Redheaded men seeking a quick $500 best not turn to the Cryos sperm bank: It's full-up with carrot top donors and is turning them away. "There are too many redheads in relation to demand," director Ole Schou tells the Telegraph. Only women who have an infertile redhead boyfriend or who prefer redheads want the stuff, and "that's perhaps not so many, especially in the latter case," Schou says. Ireland is the one exception; redhead sperm sells “like hot cakes" there.

Donors with brown eyes and brown hair are highly prized because of the bank's many customers in Greece, Italy, and Spain. One hard-to-come-by sperm variety is Indian, because India forbids the exportation of eggs or sperm—which leaves international Indian customers in the lurch.

(NEWSER) - Researchers have managed to produce sperm cells from embryonic stem cells—and for the first time, the sperm worked, resulting in healthy baby mice. (NEWSER) - A teenager inherited a "ticking time bomb in his chest" from a sperm donor father who failed to inform sperm banks that he had a rare and often fatal genetic heart defect as well as the inherited condition Marfan's syndrome. Semen Allergy Tied to Post-Orgasm 'Flu'

Injections of their own semen may help afflicted men, say researchers

(NEWSER) - Talk about disappointing sex. A rare semen allergy is being linked to a strange, flu-like illness some men experience after orgasm. Men who suffer from post orgasmic illness syndrome, or POIS, become feverishness, with a runny nose, extreme fatigue and burning eyes immediately after ejaculation, reports Reuters . Symptoms can last up to week. Two Dutch studies are attributing the illness to men's allergy to their semen. The illness is currently being treated in some subjects through hyposensitization therapy by injecting men with minute doses of their own semen to reduce the allergic response. More»
