The Dallas Mavericks clinched the NBA’s best record and the number one seed in the Western Conference playoffs, winning 96-86 over the Los Angeles Clippers at home yesterday. With five games remaining in the regular season, the Mavs can now afford to rest stars Dirk Nowitzki and Jerry Stackhouse as they prepare for the postseason.

Nowitzki led the way with 26 points as the Clippers fell percentage points behind the Warriors for the eighth and final playoff spot. While the Clippers are still fighting, the Mavericks can now relax and try to get healthy. Their franchise record 64th win gave them their first number one seed. “It’s good we got that taken care of,” Josh Howard says. (More NBA stories.)
