Another mass dumping of bodies in Mexico in and near the port city of Veracruz: Police found 11 more victims in four separate locations yesterday, just days after 35 were brazenly dumped on a busy city street, reports AP. Police suspect drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman" for the first batch of tortured victims—12 women and 23 men, all thought to be part of rival gangs. The public displays of violence come as state prosecutors and judges meet in neighboring Boca del Rio, notes CNN.

"The effects of this illicit activity are not only seen reflected in the poisoning of our society, but it is also the motor generating the violence," said Attorney General Marisela Morales. The government figures about 35,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in the past five years, and independent reports have even higher tolls. (More Mexico stories.)
