Sox Submarine Seattle In Fenway Debut

Posted Apr 11, 07 3:22 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – After four snowed-out days in Cleveland, the Mariners' nightmare roadtrip continued at Fenway. The Sox chased former Cardinals World Series hero Jeff Weaver with seven runs in two innings en route to a 14-3 win; Boston leadoff man Julio Lugo got on base four times in the first four frames. Meanwhile, Beckett held Seattle to an existentially bleak one run in seven innings, thrice striking out Ichiro Suzuki.

The game turned ugly in the eighth, when Seattle outfielder Jose Guillen was ejected for charging the mound after striking out to his nemesis, Brendan Donnelly.  Donnelly coolheadedly retaliated by plunking the next batter, Kenji Johjima, and was promptly ejected himself.  Other than that, as Shaughnessy notes, "there wasn't much drama."
