(Newser) – The Daily Beast delivers some bad news after looking at the regulatory filings of utilities across the country: Electric rates are going up, and they won't be coming back down for a while. The problem is that the utilities have to make badly needed repairs to the nation's creaking power plants, or build new ones altogether to comply with stricter environmental laws.

What's worse, writes Laura Colarusso, is that the hefty increases are coming just as the White House and Congress begin cutting programs—notably the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program—to help the needy pay their utility bills. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle from cold-weather states are fighting to have the cuts restored.

The country is going to hell in a hand-basket while these politicians play games with our futures. The corporation CEO's make 300 times more than the average worker. When they leave a company, even if fired, they reap "bonuses" of millions of dollars. All the while, "we the people" fight each other over stupid sh*t. If you're not angry you're not paying attention. The world is upside down.

I just have some questions for the Greenies. With the world rapidly modernizing (I believe something like 50% of gas consumption is now outside of the US) how will your American regulations stop what "pollution" goes on in Cambodia or in Turkey? Will you enforce your Green revolution through the UN? The UN is too corrupt to even stop massacres and nuclear bomb manufacturing, so how are they going to enforce your Green rules? Is it possible that your movement has become more important than human suffering itself? If you know that millions of Americans are struggling to pay their bills, and your movement is driving up prices, do you actually care? My final question, isn't the Earth ultimately something to be raped and left alone to die? After all, it will become unlivable as the sun grows hotter and hotter.
