12 zombies hurt on ' Resident Evil' Toronto set

(Newser) – Emergency workers called to the site of an accident on a film set in Toronto yesterday morning initially thought there had been a gruesome catastrophe, but soon realized that most of the people there were meant to be hideously mangled: It was the set of the next Resident Evil movie. A dozen zombies who took a 5-foot tumble to the ground when a platform shifted were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, the Toronto Star reports.

A police sergeant says that despite the fake blood and gore, it didn't take emergency workers long to figure out which people actually needed assistance. "It did kind of catch us off-guard when we walked in," he says. Most of the injured undead were back on the set by the end of the day, notes the BBC. The movie, Resident Evil: Retribution, is the fifth installment in the series and is expected to be out by next fall.

Update: more actors died during additional filming, but were back on the set soon after, shuffling aimlessly.

I am glad that we have advance warning of when this movie will escape, er, be released.

This story reminds me of one of my favorite jokes: A small two-seater Cessna 152 plane crashed into a cemetery early this afternoon in central Poland. Polish search and rescue workers have recovered 300 bodies so far and expect that number to climb as digging continues into the evening.
