7 Dead as Storm Pelts Midwest

(Newser) – Freezing rain and snow continued to pelt Iowa today as the rest of the Midwest struggled with power outages, treacherous roads, and tangled air traffic in the aftermath of yesterday's storm. At least seven people have died, all victims of collisions on ice-slicked roads. Dozens of accidents were reported in Iowa and Illinois.

The storm dumped two feet of snow in Colorado, and thousands of Illinois and Iowa residents faced electricity blackouts. The weather canceled hundreds of flights in Chicago and Milwaukee, and shut down the Des Moines airport. Mitt Romney canceled three Iowa campaign stops, while Bill Clinton canceled a Des Moines rally in support of his wife's campaign.
