The fulcrum upon which cannabis legalization balances is shifting under the pressure of public opinion. Fifty-four percent of Americans now say they favor legalization of the plant. Despite this, the Obama administration, through the Justice Department, continues its attack on state's rights.
During his presidential campaign, Obama pledged not to use the same tactics as Bush and his predecessors, stating, "What I'm not going to be doing is using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue." This was, quite obviously, a lie. The Justice Department continues its war on medicinal dispensaries and growers nationwide, ignoring state laws and civil rights.
