Cate Edwards Gets Married

John Edwards' daughter marries college sweetheart Trevor Upham

(Newser) – If anybody has reason to steer clear of the institution of marriage it's probably Cate Edwards, but John Edwards and his oldest daughter marched down the aisle yesterday nonetheless. With a candle at the altar lit in memory of mom Elizabeth, Cate Edwards married her college sweetheart Trevor Upham in Chapel Hill. "We want this to be really happy and joyous and that's what my mother would want," Edwards told People ahead of the ceremony.

"There are a lot of sort of small ways that she's infused into the day," Edwards, 29, said. The bride's 13-year-old little sister, Emma, served as maid of honor, while brother Jack, 11, was a groomsman, and the ceremony was followed by shindig at the Edwards family compound. Upham is an oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute. But lest the star-crossed Edwards clan get too giddy, John Edwards is due in court this week on campaign finance charges.

After all these kids have been through over the past few years, hopefully they will see their way thru. Even though Dad is a schmuck the younger kids are really going to need him, more than ever, now that mom's gone.  Afterall, those kids and their well being is really all that's important in the end.
