Boehner: We're Not Servants of the Rich

Also, he and Obama have a 'good relationship'

(Newser) – The notion that Republicans are "servants of the rich" is "very unfair," John Boehner told Christiane Amanpour today, adding that his job is "to make sure that the American dream that was available to us is available for our kids and our grandkids. And frankly, I've got concerns that it may not be the case." Boehner emphasized his own blue-collar background, while decrying "a government that's taking in 30, 40 cents out of every dollar from our kids to pay for government." Of Congress, Boehner proclaimed "it's working. The founders gave us a committee of 535 people. Frankly, it was designed not to work. My job is to make it work. And it is working." Elsewhere on your Sunday dial, as per Politico:

  • Boehner on President Obama: "We've got a pretty good relationship," while acknowledging that "it's been a little frosty the last few weeks."
  • Boehner on who he'll endorse: “I'm sure Republican voters around the country will choose a good candidate," he added. "And whatever candidate they choose, I'm going to support."

  • Condoleezza Rice on foreign policy: "It concerns me that we are not having a discussion about foreign policy, and, obviously, I would suggest that anyone who’s going to run for president of the United States spend some time on the basics of foreign policy."
  • Rice on Obama: "I think that building on [what] President Bush left in place, President Obama has indeed carried the war on terror far forward in a very effective way."
  • Haley Barbour on Herman Cain's sex harassment allegations: “I do think you do have the smell here of Clarence Thomas. What he wants to do is get back on message. People need to know what the facts are and that’s a challenge for him right now."
  • Ron Paul on whether he would support the GOP nominee: “You know, probably not, unless I get to talk to and find out what they really believe in.” Unless a candidate believed in the same things, "I would be reluctant to jump on board and kill all of the supporters that have given me trust and money."
  • Kay Bailey Hutchison on slamming Rick Perry in 2010: “I’m not going to backtrack on anything that I’ve said. It was a very tough race. ... He was pretty brutal on my record and I took on his record, so that’s the way politics is. I thought that we needed a choice in Texas and I certainly feel the same way about the United States.”

The American dream Boehner shouts about, was put in jeopardy, the day GW Bush was elected.  It has always been the Republican motto to Borrow and Spend, and boy have they been doing that !  Of course, they are trying to lay the blame at the Democrats feet, as usual.  Whilst pulling the wool over the eys of would-be voters, they have kept enriching the haves, allowing numerous U.S. lives to be lost, and worse, allowing soldiers with horrible wounds to languish in their homes, or in vet's hospitals, waiting - in vain -  for their needs to be met.  Now, Congress is talking of lowering their retirement, and the Republicans HAVE ALWAYS CLAIMED TO SUPPORT THE ARMED SERV(ERS)ICES, OF OUR COUNTRY.  They lie about that, with straight faces, and continue to make bookoos of billions for their 'war buddies' who are supposedly taking care of the soldiers needs? ? ? so they can fight the 'drummed up' enemies of the 'free' world.    Then, when an honest general gives honest answers about Karzai, he is let go !  Why?  Because it would make the rich less rich, if they didn't have all these outlets for their private pork-barrel projects.  Now, the world is trying to whip up hatred against the Iranians, and their nuclear weapons capabilities.  Guess who is behind that?  I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't even count.  And we wonder why the anti-semites are increasing, at such a rapid rate?  And why Europe says they won't be affected by this weaponry, so the people who are in harm's way should fight their own battles.  .  .  not a bad idea, and one that I would love to see adopted, world-wide.  I do believe it would cause a greater affinity for peace pacts, with teeth.  If we think that all the wars we have fought in the middle east have had much effect, at all, on those who've been warring for thousands of years, that is another 'wool over the eyes' proposition.  These wars have gone on since the days of Abraham and Sarah, and their treatment of Sarah's handmaid, after their own son was born.  The slaughter will continue, as always, as soon as we pull out our troops.  No doubt about that, sad as it seems.  They enjoy killing one another off, and will continue to do so. . .  In fact, they have never stopped.  Now, there is a real FAMILY FEUD.   I am a registered Republican, and have been, for years.  Realizing the modus operandi of the party, however, has made me vote Democratic, in most elections, in the last fifty years.  I guess I would really be called an Independent, but I register Republican, in order to be able to vote for the best of the worst, in the Primary.  We have nobody to vote for in the Republican line-up for 2012, so we might as well face the fact, and vote, again, for our current President, since he has no rivals in the Democratic party.  I think he is a good fellow, but he doesn't know when to 'move' and that has made our country's reputation suffer, especially as it relates to the economy.   We now have to pay a premium in interest rates, because the Republican Congress wouldn't allow our debt ceiling to rise, simply because they are trying to oust a black man who had the audacity to run for President, and worse, yet, to WIN THAT OFFICE.  They haven't stopped whining, and conniving, since, as they are desperately endeavoring to 'put that black man back in his place.'
