D-Train, Miggy Roll Into Detroit

Posted Dec 5, 07 2:20 AM CST in Sports    Most Covered

(newser) – The Detroit Tigers made the biggest splash of the 2008 off-season so far by pulling off a blockbuster trade with Florida. Detroit will receive power-hitting third baseman Miguel Cabrera and left-handed pitcher Dontrelle Willis in exchange for two previously untouchable prospects, outfielder Cameron Maybin and lefty Andrew Miller, along with several other players, reports the Detroit News.

The 24-year-old Cabrera batted .320 with 34 home runs and 119 RBI last season. Willis struggled last year, but the Tigers hope it was an anomaly for the lefty who has been remarkably successful throughout his brief career. Detroit hopes the trade is a major factor in next season’s pennant race, after missing the playoffs this year. Maybin and Miller were Detroit’s No. 1 draft picks in 2005 and 2006, respectively.
