A lawsuit has been filed in Kansas City against a Catholic priest suspected of producing child pornography, and his bishop suspected of covering up for him.
Father Shown Ratigan and Bishop Robert Finn, the leader of the 134 000-member Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St Joseph, face a number of suits alleging abuse and cover-up.
The suits allege bishop Finn knew about the porn, and had received numerous warnings about Ratigan's behaviour, but hid the information from police and families in the Diocese.
Bishop Finn reached a diversion agreement with prosecutors allowing him to escape criminal charges as long as he complies with stipulations set by prosecutors, including regular monitoring. Read the full article.
