Beer Can Be Good For Your Heart, New Study Shows
Beer could be good for your heart! But probably not if you drink as much as you probably do.   (Shutterstock)

Bottoms up, beer lovers, because wine fans aren’t the only ones who get to rationalize their drinking habits anymore! Researchers examining 16 studies involving some 200,000 participants have concluded that drinking about a pint of beer a day reduces your risk of heart disease by an average of 31%, LiveScience reports, a benefit similar to that of drinking a glass of wine a day.

But don’t throw a kegger just yet: As with wine, drinking too much increased risk drastically. Researchers also added that they don’t recommend adopting a beer-per-day habit purely to improve heart health. One dietician says the results are “not surprising,” since wine and beer both include alcohol, which, in moderation, can boost your HDL count. “You're kind of walking a tightrope, if you will, with alcohol,” she says. “Once you go beyond moderation, you’re potentially going to experience negative health effects.” (More beer stories.)
