(AP) – Syrian President Bashar Assad is taking his country to the brink of civil war, says former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice. She tells CNN's State of the Union that Assad "is no friend of the United States" and that his overthrow would be a "great thing" for the Syrian people, US interests, and anyone seeking a more peaceful Middle East. Rice is calling for the "toughest" possible penalties against Assad's government.

She says that if Russia and China block UN sanctions, the US should apply pressure with its allies or act alone. Rice also is urging more assistance to Syria's opposition.

Russian warships deployed to Syria to prevent intervention: http://www.haaretz.com/news/middle-east/report-russia-warships-to-enter-syria-waters-in-bid-to-stem-foreign-intervention-1.396359# The Destabilization of Syria and the Broader Middle East War http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article28368.htm I don't know what it is with Americans, perhaps stupidity is just in the genes? What's so damn hard about doing simple research like I do? Do you really think the media is going to bother telling you what is actually happening? There is no civil war, Assad forces are battling an armed insurgency against heavily armed islamist terrorists who have entered from neighboring countries.
