'Jenny' Shot New Ad Light-Years From 'the Block'

Lopez filmed from LA while lookalike went to the Bronx

(Newser) – Sure, she’s still “Jenny From the Block"—unless of course you actually want Jennifer Lopez to drive around said block. It turns out J.Lo did not actually visit the Bronx neighborhood featured in her new Fiat commercial. Rather, a body double drove the car through her gritty old neighborhood, while Lopez herself filmed her parts on an LA soundstage. The Smoking Gun notes that outlets including the Wall Street Journal were fooled by the editing trick.

The press release for the spot even claims that Lopez is “driving a Fiat 500 Cabrio as she travels through the streets of Manhattan to the Bronx where she grew up.” And apparently J.Lo is a better actor than we all thought, because she was able to say the lines, "Here? This is my world" and “This place inspires me” with a straight face. Even better: TSG adds that while the lookalike was filming in the Bronx, the Fiat broke down in the middle of the street.

That's J.Lo, but that is not the Bronx.

What's the big deal? Hollywood is about illusion. J-Lo is selling cars so who gives a rats ass. She did it the most efficient way she could. Stay in Hollywood where she records so she could work it into her very busy schedule. I think she's a talented woman in so many ways, her creativity, musicality, pretty darn good actress and business woman. Have you seen that neighborhood? I grew up in some pretty shitty neighborhoods and now that I've reached some level of success I don't care to go back. Those neighborhoods are my inspiration too...They inspire me to never ever be in a position where I have to be there again. Work, work, work, work! Run Jay-Lo, Run! ...the science behind the art... http://www.standupcomedyclinic.com
