(Newser) – Philadelphia goalie Antero Niittymaki was the hero against Minnesota, stopping two five-on-threes and making 28 saves in his fourth start of the year, a 3-1 win. The Flyers were 7-8 on penalty-killing overall. Niittymaki's counterpart Niklas Backstrom didn't fare as well, clumsily missing Braydon Coburn's clinching shot in the third period.

The first five-on-three commenced in the game's second minute, but Niittymaki had two huge saves to keep things under control. Said teammate Jeff Carter, "Nitty really made some big saves and kept us in the game and we kind of fed off that." Carter and Scottie Upshall had the team's two other goals.
