Long Island police say there's probably just one local serial killer responsible for the murders of 10 people whose bodies were stashed along desolate parts of Ocean Parkway, reports Newsday. Earlier this year, investigators began working on the theory that multiple killers were at large, mostly because two victims didn't seem to fit the pattern of women linked to the sex industry: an adult male and a female toddler.
Now investigators are revising that, speculating that the male was indeed linked to the sex industry (he was wearing women's clothes) and that the toddler may have been the daughter of one of the prostitute victims. All 10 bodies were found between Dec. 11 and April 11. "We know that killers of this type always make a mistake, and so that's what our detectives are looking for—where this subject made a mistake," says the Suffolk Count police chief.
