Deck the halls with hails of gunfire? It turns out that Black Friday didn't just set a record for retail sales, it also set a record for the most firearms sold on a single day, reports USA Today. A stunning 129,166 firearms were sold on Nov. 25—that's 32% higher than the previous record, from Black Friday in 2008 when 97,848 were sold. These figures are based on background record checks sent by gun deals to the FBI.

Chalk it up to "a burgeoning awakening of the American public that they do have a constitutional right to own guns," says a spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation. However gun-control advocates say the big sales only represent gun manufacturers cashing in on the Black Friday marketing. (Click to read about how Santa likes his guns, too.)
