(Newser) – Seems FAA administrator Randy Babbitt may have been flying a little too high over the weekend: Police in northern Virginia charged the veteran pilot with drunk driving after they spotted him driving on the wrong side of the road Saturday night, reports the Washington Post. Babbitt was alone, not involved in any accident, and cooperated with police, the Post notes. He requested the leave today, and Deputy Administrator Michael Huerta will take the FAA helm while Babbitt's employment status is under review. Babbitt has held the post since June 2009.

OK, here's what you need to know about this story: "Saturday night""Northern Virginia""DUI"We're talking about the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC which go on a vampire hunt on weekends for anyone they can charge with DUI.  No one is more down with the developing police state then these guys (and girls). Another Washington suburb to the north, Montgomery County Maryland, is VERY proud of their no teenage drinking jihad in a county where teenagers can readily get drugs instead of booze. The thing that distinguishes the right wing mentality is its divorcement from reality.
