Why Gun Sales Are at Record High

Social acceptance of guns explains new Black Friday record: Analysts

(Newser) – This year's Black Friday gun sales broke a record set in 2008 by nearly a third, and while fears about President Obama outlawing some types of firearms are thought to be behind 2008's record, analysts say this year's surge in sales is part of a long-term trend. Gun ownership was "politically incorrect" five years ago, but "what seems to be changing is social acceptance," an analyst at investment firm Avondale Partners tells MSNBC. "I think there might be a changing view of firearms."

Every state except Illinois now allows residents to carry concealed weapons, and a recent Gallup poll found that 47% of American households own a gun, up from 41% just a year ago. Analysts say the number of first-time gun buyers and women buying guns has been rising for several years, with handguns selling especially well. The director of communications at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, however, says this year's surge is sales is a "one-time event" which may be "the result of marketing."

This article is incorrect.  I just finished a concealed carry class and there are many states that do not allow concealed weapons.

Managed to live over half a century without need of calling 911 nor wishing I had a gun.  Sucks to be you, delusional paranoiacs, so convinced that in your future you'll wish to kill your neighbor.

Sweep out the ghettos and disarm the gangsters and thugs, then the need for a firearm for protection will diminish.  Until then, if you live in an iffy area like I do where crime and gun violence is spiking (that is, gun violence perpetrated by unregistered criminals, not registered law-abiders), acquiring a firearm is a tempting option.  When you ask the police off the record what can I do to protect myself, the response is "get the biggest gun you legally can."  The thugs call my area Candyland because it's filled with a bunch of well-off unarmed liberals - easy pickings.  And the bleeding-heart court system ensures that if they do get caught, they'll get a slap on the wrist.  I hate guns personally and don't want to own one, but with things getting rougher, I'm reluctantly giving stronger and stronger consideration to joining the 47% of armed households.
