Michelle Howard was granted a restraining order against estranged husband Terrence Howard yesterday, after claiming that the Oscar-nominated actor began abusing her within a week of their January 2010 marriage. Michelle Howard, who filed for divorce a year later, says Howard has hit her and threatened her repeatedly, causing constant fear and chronic health issues, the AP reports. She accuses him of once hitting her in the face and chipping her tooth.

She claims that in South Africa last year, he threatened to throw her off a hotel balcony. According to documents obtained by TMZ, he also once said, "If you tell anyone about my personal business, I will kill you and no one will ever know," and once threw her to the ground in a parking lot. But Howard has filed his own legal papers denying her claims and accusing her of attempting to blackmail him. "I live in constant fear of Michelle's endeavors to ruin my reputation," he writes.
