(Newser) – A Florida woman allegedly shot her son-in-law twice at point-blank range last week, enraged over his ongoing divorce with her daughter. Mother-in-law Cheryl Hepner claims he pulled the weapon, but whoops: He recorded the shooting on his iPhone, ABC News reports. "I can't believe you did that!" screams son-in-law Salvatore Miglino on the video. "I can't believe you f***ing shot me!"

With a bullet in his shoulder and one in his rib cage, Miglino reportedly wrestled the gun from her and drove away while calling 911. At the same time, Hepner was calling police blaming him. Miglino later said he had recorded the encounter while picking up his 3-year-old son because of false statements Miglino had made about him before, the Miami Herald reports. Miglino was treated at a hospital and released; Hepner was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder.

The maternal instinct is quite powerful, and will drive a person to take radical steps to protect offspring.  While she may or may not be mentally ill, she seems to have acted from a deeply instinctual place.  I'll bet SHE believes he is a danger to the children, whether there is a lick of truth to that or not.
