A man faced the ultimate rejection on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, taking bended knee and offering a ring—only to be turned down, the Huffington Post reports. But was it all a hoax? Wannabe hubby Jacob Waterdale watched his girlfriend Jodie react with sobs: "I can't!" she cried out. "I'm sorry!" But Ellen's awkward laughter gave some the impression that it was a prank. And TooFab.com insists "Jacob" was really a staffer pulling a fast one.

Ellen's YouTube page is hardly conclusive, saying only that the proposal "didn't seem to be going too well, but thankfully, it was the 12 Days of Giveaways." Check out the Twitter buzz here. And watch the video: Jodie sure does sob, but Ellen's sudden burst of laughter looks a little odd considering the moment. (See HuffPo for more videos of publicly rejected marriage proposals.)
