With only two weeks until the caucus in Iowa things aren't looking good for either Santorum or Bachmann. Recent polling has Paul and Gingrich as the strongest candidates with Romney in third. Perry is furiously campaigning in the state but isn't making any real ground.
The Week has posted a readers poll asking which candidate is most likely to drop out after Iowa. According to readers Santorum is most likely to drop out with Bachmann second most likely. Regardless he can't seem to get beyond a distant fourth in the polls. " He needs a highly unlikely "top-two finish" to keep going, says Chris Cillizza. Iowa is Bachmanns' birth state but her numbers have plummeted since she won the Ames Straw Poll in August. She is making up some ground with her 'consistent conservative' approach but lacks the funds to get that message out.
Jennifer Rubin with the Washington Post notes another option may be no one will drop out. "If Paul wins" the candidates may "declare the contest irrelevant, and consider New Hampshire to be the first meaningful contest."
