7 Dead in Christmas Shooting

Apparent shooter was among the victims

(Newser) – Police found seven people dead today in a grisly Dallas-area Christmas shooting, the Dallas Morning News reports. Authorities have not yet identified the bodies of four men and three women in the apartment, but say the shooter is likely among them. Two guns were also found on the scene. "It's a very tragic situation. It could have been a family gathering, given the time of the year," said police Sgt. Robert Eberling.

On the assumption there was only one gunman, police are not searching for a perpetrator. They are also holding off on a more thorough investigation until they get a search warrant, the AP reports. An open-ended emergency call at about 11:30 a.m. this morning prompted police and firefighters to investigate. "There was an open line," said Eberling. "No one was saying anything."

Baptist pastor won't tolerate 'minority voices'

(NEWSER) - A Dallas megachurch is getting downright Black Peter and landing like a ton of coal on stores that aren't celebrating Christmas. "Politically correct" establishments shying away from the Christian holiday get no peace and goodwill from the First Baptist Church . Instead, Pastor Robert Jeffress has launched a " Grinch Alert " website that alerts his followers to businesses that "don't show outward signs of supporting Christmas." One bank bowed to the pressure and ended up erecting a Christmas tree in its lobby. Jeffress said his church won't tolerate "voices of a minority who object to the holiday." (NEWSER) - The 27-year-old son of the Dallas police chief is accused of shooting to death a man at a suburban apartment complex yesterday and then, when police responded to the scene, opening fire on them, killing an officer. (NEWSER) - The fallout from a Texan's shooting of 51 buffalo that strayed from his neighbor's hunting ranch is sparking a modern day range war, and highlights a cultural chasm in America's wide open spaces. A working stiff foreman shot the buffalo after they escaped through a washed out section of fence from their al fresco quarters on a 20,000-acre ranch owned by a Dallas oilman. (NEWSER) - The discovery of another body in the charred wreckage of a California home brings the death toll in the Christmas Eve shooting rampage to nine, ABC News reports. Police say Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, 45, suspected of shooting his former in-laws while disguised as Santa, had $10,000 in cash and a plane ticket out of the country on him when he committed suicide at his brother’s house yesterday.
