According to various sources and this MSNBC investigative report, presidential candidate and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney systematically destroyed vast quantities of public records prior to his leaving the governorship.
Hard drives with his administration's public records and emails were sold to members of his staff for $65 each.
150 boxes of documents were destroyed.
Servers with backup copies of the information were replaced.
Aides to the current Governor receive many requests for information however "can't fulfill public records requests for the Romney administration's emails because the emails are gone."
