PANAMA CITY, Fla. — The USCG rescued two men from a capsized vessel near Shell Island in Panama City Pass, Friday. Rescued were David Shaloski and Kenneth Bennett Jr., both of Panama City.
The Bay County Sheriff's Department relayed a 911 call from Bennett to USCG Station Panama City at 5:50 p.m., reporting that both men required assistance after their 14-foot boat capsized and sank near the East Jetty in Panama City Pass. One of the men was wearing a life jacket, while the other was not.
A USCG Station Panama City 25-foot Response Boat-Small and crew recovered and transported both men to awaiting EMS at St. Andrews Marina. "They were in roughly waist-deep water, and fortunately, the tide was a little lower, which allowed our crew to tend a rescue heaving line to bring them aboard safely," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Turner, crewmember. "This rescue demonstrates the importance of wearing a life jacket at all times, especially even in shallow water, since an incident can occur at any time with little or no time to locate one."
EMS treated both men at the scene, but they declined further medical attention.
