(AP) – A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck under the sea south of Japan today, shaking buildings in the capital but causing no apparent damage or tsunami. The quake struck near the uninhabited island of Torishima in the Pacific Ocean, about 370 miles south of Tokyo, and its epicenter was about 230 miles below the sea, the Meterological Agency said. Buildings in the Tokyo area shook, but no damage or injuries were reported, and no abnormalities were reported at power plants.

I first read this and was like, "Oh, shit, really?!", glad it wasn't of significant placement to cause any damage to Japan. I think they can do with some good weather (and luck) for a bit now...

Yeah, it was funny to get one on NY's Day! Getting the practice in early.Just gave a 2 sec. judder and then a nasty shake for another 2 sec.s like a dog tugging at your leg. I'm finding the size isn't the issue so much as the duration (although they correlate mostly anyway). The one last March went on.. and on... I was grasping carpet and staring bug-eyed at the solid concrete wondering how it could wallow and not crack with 1000's of tons of building above. That was a full minute where my mind was just blank and the wall had my full and undivided attention. When I looked out the window the ceramic wall tiles were all in wavy lines.. Thank Dog for stringent building codes.. Government "interfering" in business saved countless lives that day, mine too.

Living in California...we are use to mild and violent earthquakes  But Japan seems to be getting a lot of earthquakes this last year and now in the New Year.... Here's hoping they don't suffer like last year and mother nature gives them a break..... Happy New Year Everyone
