Katy Perry's Parents: Her Divorce? God's Gift...

Because it got people to come to their church, mom says

(Newser) – Katy Perry's divorce happened for a reason: to bring more people to church, her parents—both pastors—said Wednesday at their first service since the split was announced. "I'm sure Katy is trending on the Internet just to get you to church tonight," mom Mary told 300 worshippers at Ohio's Church on the Rise. "I mean, all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012."

Dad Keith also discussed Katy, who was raised as a devout Christian but strayed off the path with hits like "I Kissed a Girl." "I love my daughter and I will always love her," said a tearful Keith. "Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children. Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race." Meanwhile, a friend tells the Sun that Russell Brand constantly made "lewd jokes at the dinner table" and made fun of Perry's parents' religion, which contributed to their divorce. Click for more rumors—some of them outrageous—about what caused the split.

shame on them for commenting publicly and in such a (self-interest) promoting manner on what is a very emotional and difficult occurence in their child's life. i am a Christian too, but would be horrified if my own parents had taken a public position on my divorce to say anything more than they loved and supported me and hoped everything would work out for the best in theong run. this is a cheap publicity gimmick. Jesus could do without. just shameless. they obviously are immature and shallow.

Dear Russell, It just doesn't make any sense to hook up with a fundy, even a "fallen" one.  It they haven't moved on in their hearts, best to keep on truckin'.
