Sandusky's Autobiography Helped Cops Find Victims

Questions fly over lengthy investigation

(Newser) – A simple Google search on Jerry Sandusky could have saved police a lot of time. Instead, it wasn't until a year into the investigation of Sandusky's alleged child abuse that authorities learned about his autobiography, Touched—which helped them track down four more victims. In late 2009, police found the second alleged victim through a campus police report; the victim's mother told them about Touched, available in the campus bookstore.

Using the book, the mother pointed out four more alleged victims, she tells the Patriot-News. The report raises new questions about why the case took three years to investigate, the paper notes. Some, including Democratic candidates for state attorney general, have suggested that then-state attorney general Tom Corbett delayed the probe until after his election as governor. The candidates have pledged to examine the office's handling of the case.

(NEWSER) - Another fumble in Penn State's handling of the Jerry Sandusky case: Turns out a psychologist warned school police that Sandusky's behavior fit a "likely pedophile's pattern," but the warning was filed away and forgotten, MSNBC reports. “There was very little doubt in my mind [Sandusky] … was a male predator, someone that was in the process of grooming a young man for abuse,” says Dr. Alycia Chambers. “I thought … my report was strong enough to suggest that this was somebody who should be watched.” More»

They want a judge to order him kept inside his home

(NEWSER) - Jerry Sandusky has reportedly been spending some quality time on his back porch—watching kids play at a neighboring school, according to complaints. Prosecutors yesterday filed a request that Sandusky's bail conditions be altered to prevent him from going outside his home for anything other than medical treatment. (NEWSER) - Penn State's president is holding town-hall meetings for alums as fallout from the Jerry Sandusky scandal continues, and audiences aren't going easy on the school's leader—especially where Joe Paterno is concerned. At his second of three stops, Rodney Erickson heaped the blamed squarely on Sandusky, the AP reports. "It grieves me very much when I hear people say 'the Penn State scandal.' This is not Penn State. She comes through with certified check after new abuse charges

(NEWSER) - Jerry Sandusky has been released on $250,000 bail after spending a night in prison following a new round of child abuse charges . He paid the bail using real estate holdings and a certified check from his wife, the AP reports.
