(NEWSER) - Up in the Air ruled this morning’s Golden Globes nominations with six, including best director, actor, and picture (drama). Nine was a close second with five nominations, including best picture (comedy/musical). In the television categories, Glee came in first with four nominations, including best series—and, not surprisingly, HBO was the leader in nominations by network, with a whopping 17 to second-place Fox’s six. Gervais skewers NBC, HFPA, Eddie Murphy ... and Madonna skewers him

(NEWSER) - "So, where was I?" began Ricky Gervais, drink in hand, as he sauntered on stage to open the Golden Globes. "Nervous?" He wasted no time throwing out a few insults, noting that he was hosting the show on NBC, "America's third biggest network. Or is it fourth?" He moved on to the show itself, calling the Globes "just like the Oscars, except without all that esteem." More of the best lines from the night:

• "The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton," Gervais said, going on to call them louder, drunker, and "more easily bought."
• The first actor to get skewered by Gervais: Eddie Murphy, who backed out of hosting the Oscars . "When the man who said yes to Norbit says no to you, you know you're in trouble."

(NEWSER) - The Social Network got a lot of love this morning as the Golden Globe nominations were announced, but British monarchy tale The King's Speech was the biggest hit with seven nominations. The Social Network and The Fighter followed with six nominations each, the AP reports. Among the more shocking nominees: Oft-mocked Jennifer Love Hewitt for best actress in a TV miniseries (The Client List), and critically-panned Burlesque and The Tourist for best movie comedy or musical.
