As temperatures continue to drop, and ice begins to form across the southern portions of the Great Lakes, the Coast Guard is urging those that choose to go out onto the ice to take the proper safety precautions.
Fluctuating temperatures across the Great Lakes will cause ice that is already unpredictable and dangerous to become even more so. The Coast Guard reminds everyone to think twice before heading out onto the ice.
Although air temperatures may seem relatively warm, lake temperatures remain extremely cold. Immersion into icy water quickly leads to hypothermia and possibly death within minutes.
